Amazon lives
The conservation of the territory of the forest peoples guarantees a more alive forest.
Protected areas with the presence of traditional communities protect one third (30.5%) of the forests in Brazil ( Instituto Socioambiental ).
Guardians who preserve the Amazon
Even though only 1% of deforestation occurs on forest peoples’ lands ( Mapbiomas ).
living under pressure
In the last decade, illegal mining on indigenous lands has increased 10 times, and deforestation alerts in 2020 on indigenous lands accounted for 7% of the total area deforested in the Amazon.
Environmental impact
Losses in temperature and precipitation are directly linked to deforestation.
Brazil is the 5th largest global emitter of CO2 and 50% of the gas release comes from deforestation by burning.
The fire in the Amazon caused a decrease, in 40 years, of 9% of the precipitation in the Brazilian territory.
In addition, the fires in the region increased the average temperature by almost 2ºC.
Extinction of Biodiversity
The current set of protected areas with traditional communities is responsible for preserving 42.3% of Brazil’s native vegetation.

SOCIAL IMPACT
The lack of connectivity restricts access to education, health, security, financial services and cultural dissemination, in addition to limiting professional, personal and family aspects.
With the removal of people from their territory to access services related to connectivity, the territory ends up being more vulnerable to invasions and undue approximation from outsiders
